Pastor James Ketchum, Jr.

The Autobiography of Pastor James Ketchum, Jr.

“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, 0 God. ” Psalm 42:1

The Latin name James, meaning “The Prudent One”, is indicative of District Elder James Ketchum, for he is indeed wise, providential, careful, foreseeing, and a servant of the Lord.

District Elder James Ketchum received the gift of the Holy Ghost on Sunday, August 6, 1978, under the leadership of the late Bishop Dr. Charles Edward Poole. The beginnings of Elder Ketchum’s tenure in the church included studying the Bible and being taught through systematic Bible Classes and Bible Training Minister’s Classes facilitated by great leaders of God including Bishop Charles Edward Poole and Bishop Livingstone Howard. Through these men of wisdom, he learned how to search the Scriptures in a quest to learn and implement the rich word of God. This achievement caused him to be well versed in the scriptures. As an Apostolic teacher and preacher, Elder Ketchum has spent most of his life in the church; even as he completed studies at DeVry College and worked for 27 years at the Chicago Transit Authority. He remains a dedicated member and has faithfully served as associate minister of the Greater Bethlehem Healing Temple under the leadership of Bishop Chester Hudson where he baptizes converts, assists in tarrying services, and has assisted the pastor in praying for the sick and visiting the sick in the hospitals.

Through evangelism, District Elder Ketchum taught and preached in various churches, street meetings, and tent revivals throughout the city of Chicago where many have been blessed through his testimony of deliverance after an overdose on drugs. He continues to teach and preach in various churches, throughout the city of Chicago, the states of Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Ohio and Texas where many have been and continue to be blessed.

On July 20, 1992, Elder James Ketchum was ordained in the ministry as an Elder by Bishop Arcenia C. Richards, Presiding Bishop of the Living Witnesses of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. (LWAF). On July 24, 2000, he was elevated to District Elder in the Living Witnesses of the Apostolic Faith; leading to his service as Assistant Chairman of the Central States Council of the LWAF, Field Minister for the Central States Council, Member of the Licensing Committee of the LWAF, Chairman of the Board of District Elders of LWAF; Church Coach Bus Driver to various cities, Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Board of Directors, and Assistant Pastor of the Greater Bethlehem Healing Temple. District Elder James Ketchum was elected pastor of Greater Bethlehem Healing Temple on Tuesday, June 7, 2016.

The call of God is upon the life of this man of God. Elder James Ketchum is a praying man and can be found daily praying in his home in the early morning hours and during the week in the church’s prayer chapel. He is an anointed preacher and teacher. District Elder Ketchum is highly respected by his loving family including his wife, Sister Deborah Jordan Ketchum, one daughter Camille Haynes the mother of Michael Jr., Matthew, Malcolm, Mateo, and Madden, and two sons Jaron the father of Brandon and Josiah, and son Lamar Ketchum; as well as other extended family members.

Elder Ketchum’s ultimate goal is to keep on praying, for he knows God answers sincere prayer. He will continue to seek guidance and wisdom from the Lord as to how to go before the people of God. His desire and joy is to continue preaching and teaching the word of God as it is written to those who will listen and obey; sharing the life and saving grace of Jesus Christ with every soul he meets — It is because of Calvary!

Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being examples to the flock,

And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. I Peter 5 .‘2—4
